Cote Tapia-Marmugi  - Mole St. Baker

Cote was born in Santiago, Chile, a place she has few but fond memories of, mostly revolving around food. She came to the US with her family as a child, settling in rural New York. Her parents helped her maintain a hold on her roots, in part, with regular visits to a local Chilean bakery, Los Andes. She has distinct memories of the bakery, which sold not just pastries but Empanadas de Pino and sandwiches. However, at this point in her life she was very aware of being undocumented and felt the best way to avoid scrutiny was to assimilate. It wasn’t until her early 20s when she moved to Philly that she decided to embrace her Chilean identity. Though her first love remains baking custom cakes and Chilean sweet treats as Mole Street Baker, she can now finally look back and embrace her heritage through childhood memories of the food she loved so dearly yet make it her own, in keeping with her vegetarian beliefs.
